Should You Purchase New Construction Homes?

new construction homes

At some point in our lives, we all move to a new or different house. Some people can move up to 10 or 15 times during their lives, but generally speaking, the norm is around 5-7 times. Some people remain at home with their parents and take over the house when they die, but most people will move out of their parent’s home and set up house themselves with a loved one. If you are considering a house from a range of new construction homes, you may already have a very good idea about what kind of house you prefer. Alternatively, you may need a bit of guidance as you are not too sure whether to choose a brand-new home or a pre-loved home. Let’s consider a few pros and cons.

Lower Heating Bills

As building materials and methods of building have improved over the years, insulation has greatly improved a house’s ability to retain heat. This efficiency means you can enjoy lower heating bills.

Choose Your Layout

By choosing new construction homes, you can generally have an input into the overall design and internal finishing. This means you will be able to have just about what you want. There may have to be some compromise, especially if you choose a home that is on a development, but if you choose a custom-built home, then you will get the layout that suits you best.

Upgrades

Very often, you can choose the kinds of upgrades you want. If you want something that is very different to that on offer then you will have to pay extra, but it may be worth the price to get exactly what you want.

Efficient Appliances

Boilers and other systems used throughout new homes are much more efficient today. When this is taken into consideration with the better building quality and insulation, you can be sure your carbon footprint is minimized.

Less Maintenance

There is less to replace, remove or renew in a new home, as everything is newly installed. This will give you peace of money for a few years at least and will save you money at the outset.

Work Is Warrantied

New homes have warranties, which means that if anything goes wrong within the specified period of time, then the builder should take care of it. Any major repairs will be undertaken by the building contractor in a timely manner.

Quick Build

By choosing a new home, you will know exactly how long it will take to build and when your moving in date is. This is less stressful than choosing a pre-loved house and having to wait for searches and permissions to come through. These can sometimes highlight nasty surprises or essential repairs, which will add to your overall cost.

External Landscaping

Older houses will enjoy a mature garden, whereas a new home will only just be starting out. This can mean less shade for the newer house during the hot summer months.

The Right Location

You may not be able to find the right location to have a custom-built home, but you may find an older house in just the right location. If this is the case, you will need to weigh up the pros and cons before proceedings.
