Ho-Ho-Kus also formerly known as the borough of Orvil, was reincorporated back in 12th October 1908. It was named “Ho-Ho-Kus” to differentiate it from Hohokus Township and it derives its name from the Indian term “Mehokhokus”. As of 2000, it was the 15th wealthiest community in the state of New Jersey. It covers 1.749 square miles of both land and water, making it the 426th largest community in the state. Ho-Ho-Kus borders Saddle River, Ridgewood, Hillsdale, Waldwick and Washington Township, has a total population of 4,078 residents and the ZIP code: 07423.

Residents of Ho-Ho-Kus have access to the Hermitage and the Ho-Ho-Kus Inn. These two landmarks have put the borough of Ho-Ho-Kus on the map of must-visits for tourists due to their rich history. There are a number of top-notch bar and restaurants, eateries and social joints that make the town one of the best places to live in in New Jersey.

Furthermore, the Ho-Ho-Kus education system is uncompromising in the provision of quality education to its children. The Ho-Ho-Kus school district is ranked under the District Factor Group “J”- one of the highest categories in the state of New Jersey.  It serves public school pupils from kindergarten up to the twelfth grade at the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School. This school is noted to have a student-teacher ratio of 17.5:1 which is quite impressive. The Northern Highlands Regional High School also serves students from the ninth grade to the twelfth grade. Additionally, public school students are free to enroll at the Bergen County Technical Schools for further secondary education programs.

  • The Limoncello Italian Restaurant: The food and ambience of this eatery is unrivaled. The restaurant offers a wide range of dining options ranging from Italian cuisines, vegan options to gluten free options at affordable prices. While you are there, make sure to either try out the ravioli or the risotto that will be sure to make you lick your fingers. The service is exceptional and friendly making this a food lover’s ultimate paradise!
  • St. Eve’s: This restaurant is mostly known for its gluten free options and classy ambience which creates the perfect mood for romantic dinner dates for couples. The menu is mostly dominated by American cuisines. Should you happen to dine in this fine establishment, it is recommended that you get the Sirloin Carpaccio, sundried tomato, Baby Arugula, Tempura Capers and Grano Padano, as your meal for the evening. It won’t let you down!

  • The Hermitage: This fourteen-room Gothic Revival house museum was built back in 1847 by William H. Ranlett. In 1970, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places due to the excellence of its architecture. Be sure to tour Bergen’s county first national historical landmark.
  • The Ho-Ho-Kus Inn and Tavern: This restaurant is located at the Franklin Turnpike intersection. It is formerly known as the Mansion House since it has five rooms in it: Hermitage, Crystal, Tap, Chateau and Zabriskie. It was once the residence to John Zabriskie, then it was converted to a church after his death. Afterwards, it turned into an inn and currently, this national landmark is a Zagat rated Restaurant.
