The Most North-Eastern Bergen County
Alpine is a borough in the most north-eastern Bergen County and was incorporated in 1903 from portions of the now-gone Harrington Township. Shortly after, Alpine acquired a portion of Cresskill.
Forbes listed Alpine as America’s most expensive ZIP code to live in, with a median home price of $4.25m. In previous Forbes listings, Alpine was ranked #4 in 2010 & #1 in 2009. Alpine was also tied with Greenwich for ABC News list of most expensive zip codes in 2006 & 2007. Additionally, New Jersey Monthly magazine listed Alpine as its 15th best place to live in its 2008 publication.
Alpine is a very private community of wealthy estates and the residents put great value on their privacy. Most lots are very large (with no neighbor in view) and local mail is delivered in the town center. Although there are very few public transportation options, Alpine is conveniently located just 12 miles from New York City.
Alpine boasts a highly rated school system and while it doesn’t have its own High School, students are sent to the prestigious Tenafly High School for grades 9 through 12. There is no commercial or industrial facilities in Alpine, but there are plenty in close proximity in the neighboring towns.
LOWEST PROPERTY TAX RATES
While boasting some of the most expensive and prestigious estates, Alpine also offers one of the lowest property tax rates in New Jersey.
