A Guide For Moving To New Jersey

Moving To New Jersey

New Jersey is an immensely popular place to live in the United States. It is close enough to New York City but is much less expensive – it offers all the electricity of big-city life at a more affordable, and comfortable, pace. In fact, it’s ranked as the most popular state to live in the US! Moving to New Jersey can be an exciting step, and we’ve put together a handy guide that you can follow to have a smooth move.

It’s All About Organization

If you want to make your move a less expensive and stressful experience, get organized beforehand. Many people start packing only at the last minute because they often underestimate how much time it takes to get ready! This is especially true for those who live in apartments or smaller homes. However, despite the size of your home, you might find that you have accumulated plenty of items, or that organizing whatever you have ends up taking longer than you thought you would.

So, give yourself adequate time to pack up before you move. You can also take the opportunity to downsize, since the more items you have when you move, the more time it takes for you to load and unload – and the higher the cost of moving. If you’re unsure of what to do with your unwanted items, not to worry – you’ve got plenty of choices. Try online marketplaces or look for local non-profit or donation centers that would benefit from your preloved items. You can also look into having a garage sale.

Consider Your Logistics in New Jersey

It’s a basic question, but it’s something that many overlook. Where are you moving from and to? Perhaps you’re making the move from a roomy suburban home to a city apartment, or from a high-rise apartment building to a duplex. You’ll want to assess your logistics before you make the move so that you’re aware of what you should plan for. How much will you be able to bring with you? If you have a car, what would your new parking situation be like? You’ll also want to consider the infrastructure of your new living space. If you’re moving into an apartment, will there be a freight elevator that you can access?

Note the Weather

New Jersey may be small, but it has some pretty dramatic weather. Summers can be extremely hot, with temperatures going up to 105 degrees Fahrenheit, while winter temperatures can include wind chills that dip to below zero. Storms are also common in the area, which can lead to occasional power outages. Nor’easters also tend to make an appearance between late fall and early spring, so make sure you have an emergency kit ready just in case. Most people find spring to early fall the best time to move to New Jersey. With all that said, we’re excited for you to be making the move! Read up on what you should do before moving to a new house as well, so that you’ll have everything ready for a perfect welcome to the Garden State.
