Waldwick is a borough located in Bergen County, New Jersey. It is home to several historic places that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. As of the 2010 census, the borough had a population of about 9,625 residents, an increase from the previous 2000 census. Different derivations of the borough’s name have been offered. This includes one that the name ‘Waldwick’ stems from Old English, from “wald” which means (forest) and “wick” which means “place or settlement.” The borough’s ZIP code is 07463.

Waldwick offers its residents a suburban feel and many of them are private homeowners. It has been ranked as one of the best places to live in Bergen County and this is probably why many professionals and retired individuals are moving to the borough. As a resident of Waldwick, you will enjoy close proximity and access to highly rated bars and restaurants and dozens of recreational parks for the whole family to enjoy. In 2017, Waldwick was ranked as the “Safest Small Town in America.” This was awarded based on FBI crime statistics based on crimes per 1000 residents. 

Education in Waldwick is highly rated and public-school students from the borough are eligible to go for secondary education as offered by the Bergen County Technical Schools. The major routes that run through Waldwick are County Route 502, State Route 17 and County Route 507. 

Dining Spots

  • Moshi Moshi: If you love Japanese food, Moshi is a definite must-visit. This lovely Japanese restaurant offers a relaxed atmosphere combined with traditional Japanese food and exceptionally delicious sushi rolls. The food is fresh, and the prices are affordable therefore you will not have to dig too much into your pockets to enjoy your favorite meal. The staff is kind, and very attentive and they try to work with you to ensure your dining experience is pleasant. 
  • ETC Steakhouse: This intimate steakhouse offers guests farm-to-table fare in a relaxed, white-tablecloth surrounding. The steak is tender and juicy, and the service is amicable and very helpful. A recommended dish you can try is the “Lobster” Roll paired with crispy French fries. The chili and chocolate short ribs peas are also a fan favorite among locals. 

Points of Interest

  • The Celery Farm: This is a 107-acre wetlands preserve that features trails hosting close to 53 breeding bird species. It is a great place to get away and enjoy nature while spending time with your family. The terrain is easy to walk on and therefore you can enjoy hiking without hassle. 
  • The Hermitage: This is a fourteen-room Gothic Revival house museum that was built in the 1800s for Elijah Rosencrantz, Jr. It is Bergen County’s first National Historic Landmark. You can enjoy guided tours around the house and learn about this historic house and the role it played in the Revolution.
